The Mumpreneur Diaries

My husband and I are considering (trans: I've decided, he's panicking about how to pay for it) setting up a home office log cabin job in the back garden. It's only wee - about 2.5m by 3m - but it will have electricity and warmth and carpet and such.

But most importantly it will not have a fridge.

The fridge is the bain of my existence when I'm working from home. That and the crisp drawer. Today alone I've had a cheese and ham toastie, an instant noodle bowl, two packs of crisps, hUUUGe bowl of crunchy nut, chocolate mousse, two lollies... ugh!

This will all end when I am down the bottom of the garden. I will allow only a smattering of fresh fruit in a bowl and some diet coke to cross the threshold.

(though I may invite a small sweetie stash into the filing cabinet!)

Hi Mosey Jones,
I loved your book : The mumpreneur diairies
It is the best book I have read in ages(and I am a compulsive reader).
I recognize myself so much in your daily trials, struggles and big DILEMMA:how to be a working and caring mum....
Like you, I have two Boys(Numéro Un aged four and Numérobis, due for mid-may).
I live in France, Normandy, Rouen but was born in Mauritius
Last year, (August 08) I had to resign from my job in Paris (I was working as a managing documentalist of the Corporate department in a big French Law office) and followed my husband who was offered this good job in Normandy.
It was very hard to leave my job(and my good salary), Paris and to find myself leaving in the French 'Province' !
We were able to have our own house and garden (which is impossible in Paris) and we decided to have another baby.
I felt very empty at first as I am not a Desperate Housewife at heart but an independent working woman and mum (I went back working when Numéro Un was 3 months after my maternity leave - leaving my boy with a 'very capable chilminder' ;-) ).
However, 7 months after, having adjusted myself to 'provincial' life (less stress) I am beginning to see the advantages of being at home and being able to 'enjoy' à pregnancy at home is nice !
Now I can spend time with Numéro Un, fetch him at school, spend Wednesdays with him, play with him etc
Actually we do not have money problems as my husband has a good salary and thanks to French law, I am 'earning' 60% of my old salary for 2 years + 4 months full salary when I will be on maternity leave (even if I am unemployed).
With two boys in charge soon, I dont feel being a stressed working mum as before would like to be able to stay at home to take care of them.
But I don't feel like staying at home permanently as I like working.
I must have some intellectual stimulation...you know what I mean.
Like you, I am thinking about what to do next without having to go back in an office 5 days a week from 9 a.m until 6 p.m or more.
I have many ideas.I would like to work for myself and I have am exploring my ideas until I find the IDEA.
Even, if actually, financially, we are well-off, we have à MORTGAGE (;-) ) which need to be paid for the next 20 years...so money will be much needed and I like earning my own money !
Mosey, thank you very much for your excellent novel. It was hilarious (husband problems, food struggles with Boy number one - mine lives on a diet of pasta and ham....., childcaring, wi fi connections, websites, addiction to day time TV etc..)
Good luck with your businesses...you are an intelligent and a courageous lady and above all a great mother.
And please keep writing these excellent books and chronicles.

Marie-Christine

P.S: I saw on your website that you spent sometime studying at Assas University, Paris.I also spent a year at Assas also for a degree in Information/Communication.
